The title is a play on Janus who, in Roman mythology, is the god of transitions and doorways and beginnings and endings. The month of January is named for Janus who is usually depicted as having two faces.
The colors are mostly soft and muted with one face in shadow and the other in light. This artistic choice further suggests the idea of duality.
