This is the first work in my series called Patterns. The series aims to explore patterns of behavior and feminism.

This mixed media piece represents a portrait assembled from pieces. The faceless portrait is a collage of vintage sewing pattern pieces suggesting the idea that women are “cut out” or constructed and expected to fit a predetermined pattern and design. The faceless portrait also suggests a lack of identity and character- a nod to the notion that femininity is a rigid universal standard to which all women are expected to adhere.

The work is done with clay based paint, acrylic paint, vintage sewing patterns and paint inlays (artist grade paint on a carrier sheet embedded into the work). It is sealed with artist quality satin topcoat. It is painted on plywood.

The frame is an old vintage wood window rescued from a discard pile. It retains the original handle and sash lock.

The work itself measures approximately 20’x20” and measures 24’x24” with the frame. Picture wire is attached so the work will arrive ready to hang.

Shipping is inlcuded in the price.
